This camera has been modified for astro use... the IR filter has been replaced with a BAADER IR Filter. The modifications were done by myself using these instructions. See below for some astrophotos taken with this camera.

Since the filter has been replaced, this camera will take daytime pics with a normal lens. The color balance will be "off" but this can be corrected with just about any image processing program. The only con with daytime pics is that a) they should be taken in raw to allow color balance, and b) its a hassle to have to color balance all the images. There is a way to "program" the camera for a custom color balance, but, afaict, this has to be done for each lighting situation, which is also a pain (call me lazy - I'll just use a point & shoot). Instead, I just shot in raw and used "auto" in photoshop to shift the color -- it worked surprisingly well. Autofocus is fine, afaict.

Getting decent images of nebula, galaxies, etc w/ this camera will require typical digital astrophotography exposures: multiple light frames of 3 to 5 minutes each, dark frames, in addition to flats, etc. (but you probably already knew this already.)

If you'd like to restore the camera for "normal" use, the original IR filter is included. However, this is a tedious task taking about 4 hours to do it correctly.
