The Russian Minister of Defense built the palace for his French mistress, who lived here only two years. When the Russo-Japanese War started in 1904, he was accused of graft and dismissed. The next owner, after six years, found the neighborhood too noisy and gave the building to the government, which gave it to the Theatre Arts Academy.
