Opened in 1978, this Swedish-built, Soviet-designed behemoth (1200 rooms) was once the city's top hotel, despite its considerable distance from the center of town. Groups of tourists from Europe and Asia compete ferociously for the buffet breakfast, served in the second-floor room with blue windows overlooking the sea.
