One of Antoni Gaudi’s important patrons was Eusebi Guell, an industrialist. In 1900, he commissioned Gaudi to design a garden city with 60 detached houses in an area just north of the new area of Barcelona. While working on the project Gaudi lived in this house (now preserved as a museum in his honor) built by one of his disciples. The project failed; the park became city property in 1922.
