It is, in reality a "Tourist Trap".
I always wanted to see this, since the 1st very famous photos in the 1960's... It was one of my dreams.
I was extremely lucky with the weather, snow everywhere from the previous days, but strong sunshine and clear when we went.
It is indeed a magical place, and wonderfully beautiful. The Staff was also kind and organized (it's Japan, after all)...
But overcrowded and the way somewhat dangerous.
Such an extraordinary place should have a different level of protection and visit limits! I know it's a region icon and big $$$$ maker, but like this, you are just killing 'the Chicken with the Golden Eggs'!
There were many people who should never come here! The path was covered with snow, and plenty of Ice. I saw a few babies, even with bay cars! Do you need a serious accident to happen in order to take measures?
Mass tourism is never the answer! Book the visits, and limit them. Increase the entry fee if you must.
Having said what my experience all over the World advised me, I really loved the place, in spite off! Would like to have stayed longer if had not to be running to beat the buses crowds!
This magnificent Nature spot deserves much much more! It's like a dream place!
