I felt a little like Professor Higgins, and almost was tempted to teach this poor woman to speak proper Portuguese...
But then, she was no Audrey Hepburn...!!!!

Speaking seriously, this was one of the most terrible years for Madeira, since its founding, back in the XV Century... Maybe, she had a terrible story to tell, and was tired of fighting!
