Garden of the Gods with Pikes Peak
I photograph GOG often, but this week was a sad time for the area. A twenty year old rock climber died while climbing here this week. These photos don't really show any sense of scale, but the large red rock in the image is about 700 feet high. It is a popular climbing spot, but there are dangers due to the sandstone composition. Anchors sometimes break out of the relatively soft sandstone, resulting in several serious injuries or fatalities each year. I don't know the individual who died this week, but my thoughts and prayers are with his family...
