This trip to Yellowstone on Feb 13-16 included Janet, me, and 6 other friends. Since this was winter, the only way into the park was via snowmobiles or snow coaches. We all chose snow coaches. From West Yellowstone, where we were staying, the coaches go to either Old Faithful area, or Canyon area. Since you never know where wildlife will show up, we went on coaches for 4 days. First to Old Faithful area, then Canyon, then back to Old Faithful, and finally, another Canyon trip. Do note that each trip stopped at numerous places along the way. Also, on entering the park, initially, it is 14 miles from West Yellowstone to Madison Junction, where there are restrooms and you can buy snacks, coffee or hot chocolate. From there, you either head South toward Old Faithful, or North and then East for the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone area. As it turned out, that 14-mile stretch on the way to Madison Junction turned out to be very interesting, as I will explain below!
