SeaLife Center, Kayaks, Eagles, Exit Glacier, Alaska 8-17-24
Linda, Dixon, Katie and Mike went Sea Kayaking this morning while Janet & I decided to explore Seward, Alaska. The first place we went was the Alaska SeaLife Center. The first thing we wanted to see there was their recently rescued baby Walrus. It was not yet in an exhibit that you could easily see, but from the second floor, you could look down on cages for rescued sea life and we were able to see the baby walrus that way. They also have a great walk-in Puffin Exhibit, many large exhibits with seals, fish, crabs, and great “touchable” exhibits with tidepool life. Then Janet & I found “The Lagoon” in Seward. There is a long boardwalk along 3rd Ave (Hwy 9) right next to the lagoon. We went there mainly for a nice walk, then found a pair of Bald Eagles trying to get their immature eagle to eat a live salmon. They had to help and encourage it a lot, but finally had it eating some. Next, we met up with the rest of our group and went to Exit Glacier. Janet & I first went there in 2004 and it was much larger than it is now, so I included two photos from 2004.
