The latest Galleries here are for a second visit to Sol Duc Falls, and for Hurricane Ridge, both in June of 2024.The others were all from another of our short 2-day trips in 2022. This time to go to a number of areas on the North side of Olympic National Park in Washington State. After arriving at our campground, we went up to Hurricane Ridge. Unfortunately, it was hazy and smoky, with the afternoon sun making it worse. Still, we took a few photos there before heading back to our campground. The next morning, we again went up to Hurricane Ridge, hoping for better viewing. Again, it was still hazy and smoky, so after a few more photos, we headed for our next destination, the Sol Duc Valley, just east of Lake Cresent (which we got a few photos of along the way, and on the way back as well). Our first stop in the Sol Duc Valley was at the end of the road for a hike to Sol Duc Falls. This was my first time hiking out to it, and the short 1.6-mile round trail was well worth it. Next, we went on the Ancient Groves Nature Trail, which is still in the Soleduck Valley, also known as Sol Duc. It is an easy 0.4-mile loop trail and was very beautiful, such that this is where we took the most photos on the trip. After that, we headed to Madison Falls in the Elwha River Valley. This is a simple 0.2-mile roundtrip hike to a nice 50-foot waterfall. After this, we took a few more photos of Lake Crescent on the way back to our campground. On the way home the next morning, we headed home, but along the way saw a sign for a Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Washington, so we stopped by there for about 45 minutes. We did not take any photos there, but it was very interesting, as well as free!
