We first did a quick tour of Kodachrome Basin State Park the afternoon we arrived near Bryce Canyon NP. It was only about 10 miles from our campground. We then went back 2 days later and did some hikes there. Note, dogs are also allowed on trails in Kodachrome Basin State Park! As the park brochure describes it, “The most distinctive features in the park are the large columns of sedimentary rock that rise from the basin floor. These are known as sedimentary pipes. Approximately 67 sedimentary pipes have been identified in Kodachrome Basin and in the area adjacent to the park.” There are numerous theories to explain the formation of these sedimentary pipes, but nothing has been decided.
