Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Arizona, USA

This is the Kris Eggle Visitor Center in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. It is named after a former Enforcement Park Ranger, Kris Eggle, who was shot and killed in the line of duty at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, on August 9, 2002 while pursuing members of a drug cartel. The highway through the park, being a border crossing, is a place where drug runners and those crossing the border illegally may be encountered. However, while this is very unlikely, you are advised not to pick up hitch hikers or stop to aid someone who appears to be in distress. Instead contact a park ranger if either is seen. As long as you are aware of your surroundings, it is a safe place to visit, and well worth it!
