Hiking in this area, we found this old Whitebark pine with these pheromone packets on it. They basically mimic the pheromones given of by pine bark beetles when a tree is full of beetles. It basically says "this tree is full, move on to another tree". It is not a perfect repellent, but it about 50 percent effective..
