Great Smoky Mountains NP is one of those parks that is split between two states, North Carolina and Tennessee. We came in from the South, so entered the North Carolina side and exited in Tennessee. There is even a turnout where the states meet, and the Appalachian Trial runs right through that turnout. We basically stayed on the main North/South road through the park and stopped at turnouts for views and fall colors. To truly do this park justice, we should come back and spend more time to explore areas off the main road!
