On our way to and from Key West, we stopped at different areas in Everglades NP and specifically stopped at Big Pine and Noname Keys to look for Key Deer. They are a sub-species of White Tail Deer that are much smaller. Adult males weigh 55-75 lbs., and are just 30 inches tall at the shoulder. Adult females are 44-64 lbs., and are 26 inches tall at the shoulder. We rode bikes at the Shark Valley area of Everglades late in the afternoon and many alligators were hauled out of the water right next to the tram/bike path. Someone said she counted 75 of them on the 15 mile round trip. Many of the alligators were resting with their mouths open. It is called "gaping". I am going to put all the shots from the Keys first, then the Everglades shots.
