The main purpose of this trip was to hike down the Cleetwood trail to take a boat ride around Crater Lake and then hike back up. This was a goal for Janet since she had both knees replaced in 2023. Unfortunately, as we were driving to Crater Lake and were about 3/4ths of the way there, Janet got a text from the park saying our boat tickets were cancelled. Ther reason was that a fast moving, but strong thunderstorm had passed over the park 5 days earlier and damaged the boat dock. They were trying to fix the dock day-by-day, hoping to make it available, but it still wasn’t fixed. So, instead, we ended up going to Watchman Lookout Trail. It is officially 1.6 miles round trip, but from where we had to park, it was basically a 2-mile round trip hike, and 420 feet up. I was the only one who had hiked it previously, so it was a nice substitute for the Cleetwood trail hike, plus it did have nice views of the lake Unfortunately, the sun was shining directly at us, so the photos weren’t as great as I would have hoped. Finally, we also hiked partway up Garfield Peak trail and got some good photos there.
