This is our second trip to Crater Lake NP this month. Primary reason was again to photograph Comet Neowise (see separate gallery). However, while there, we were certainly not going to ignore the park itself! In fact, along with a drive all the way around the park, we also went to two areas in the park we had never gone to before. The first was the Castle Crest Wildflower Trail, near the southern end of the East Side Road. This is an easy 0.5 mile loop trail through the forest to a wet meadow (with flagstones placed so you don't get wet or muddy). Lots of wildflowers here. Then later in the day, we went to the Pinnacles area in the park, also off of the East Side Road. Here there are a series of hardened pumice spires in a narrow river valley.
