This was a quick and basically spontaneous trip. On Thursday morning, Dec 29th, the news said we had snow/ice coming in on Friday night, but that Friday would still be clear during the day. We had been looking at going to Cape Perpetua at some point, and I noticed that high tide would be about 11:30 AM on Friday. So, we decided to leave right after lunch! The campground at Cape Perpetua is closed this time of year, but we stayed at Tillicum Beach Campground about 4-5 miles north of Cape Perpetua. It was right on the beach and a very nice campground. We got there late afternoon, setup, and quickly drove down the the Visitor Center at Cape Perpetua. Unfortunately, it closed at 4:00 PM and we got there at about 4:20 PM. But that was OK, as we would go there the next morning (opens at 10 AM). We then had dinner with friends in Newport at the Chowder Bowl. Fish & Chips and chowder were both very good. Next morning, we went up to Cape Perpetua Overlook, then to Devil's Churn (well worth it), the Visitor Center, and finally Spouting Horn and Thor's Well. The Tide was good for Thor's Well, but the surf was high, making it too dangerous to go out on the rocks near it for photos. Still, it was nice to see it and we had a good time overall. We had lunch at the Blue Whale Family Restaurant Yachats on our way out of town, bowl of chowder each, and it was very good!
