This was my first true backcountry ski trip. My father wanted us to experience the "last of New England's snow". We left the AMC lodge with tall alpine skis strapped to external frame packs. From Lunch Rocks, where we dropped our packs, I remember the slope being so steep that with each step I had to dig my ski tips out from the snow.
