The Potomac Whitewater Festival's most dramatic event is the Great Falls Race. This downriver race is a quick, adrenaline-packed descent of 60 vertical feet through the Potomac's spectacular class V+ Great Falls, one of the few class V rapids in the eastern United States. First time visitors to Great Falls are surprised to find such a rugged and undeveloped area just 18 miles upriver from Washington, DC.
