The National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum were combined into a newly restored historic building in Washington, DC on July 1, 2006. The museums are located on a two-city block site between Seventh and Ninth streets and between F and G streets N.W. The combined museums are officially known as the Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture.
