Many ruins at Ephesus are clearly visible though less than 15% are thought to have been excavated. In the distance one can see a flat expanse that was once the harbor which drove Ephesus prosperity.
A small airport, open pastures and farms exist today where the important harbor once flourished. Mankind's mark at Ephesus was simultaneously breathtaking and devastating. In ancient times an important port and commercial center, today Ephesus lies in ruins 3 miles from the Aegean Sea.
