Bodie Ghost Town

It feels like a movie set, but eerie. You certainly wouldn't be surprised to see cowboys and ladies in long, draped and pleated dresses walking these streets. Ghosts? Perfectly believable even on a bright sunny day. To have accumulated so much in this remote location, and then walk away, leaves you curious about boom town life in the American southwest. Due to the dry climate and its remote location, Bodie, California is the largest, and most intact ghost town in the lower 48 United States. Once home to over 10,000 people, Bodie is now protected from thieves and vandals by California State Park Rangers.

My eye has been increasingly attracted to urban decay. Exploring, researching the history, learning what I can from the past, and photographing the relics that remain. Many don't understand the appeal of a subject like this. But, within the aging structures I can still see the vitality of decades past, and a haunting beauty in the rust, crumbing plaster and peeling paint.
