I live in the High Desert and saw this bird for the first time yesterday. IdS it about the size of a sparrow? In the morning sun it looks very black. Do I have the right bird?

Thanks for your picture of the black Phoebe. I have pair in my back yard and I have been trying to identify them for a while ow... I just adore them and love watching them swoop down and eat the bugs. Finally know what they are ! Thanks

A pair of black pheobes have nested for the second time upon a wooden ledge which I provided under by garage eaves. We talk to each other while they clean my vegetable garden of worms and flying insects which the phebes catch with their acrobatic maneuvers. They are shy limiting our distance to 6 feet. Last year a fledgling was unable to fledge because its claw was entwined in nesting material. With a scissors I freed the baby and the distraut mother seemingly came to thank me.
