My favourite place to visit in Germany. Home of the 1936 Winter Olympics. Garmisch and Partenkirchen were separate towns until that year. Partenkirchen's roots go back to Roman times. Early mornings and late afternoons local traffic is stopped while dairy cows are herded through town streets to and from nearby meadows. Ski jumping from the two jumps occur each New Year's Day.
