QE2 was one of a handful of dual-purpose ships built as the passenger ship trade waned and cruising began to take its place. In 1969 she was much more a liner; by 1985 several refits had transformed her into more of a cruise ship. The two large cruise tenders on the aft end of the boat deck were a post-Falklands addition.
