The Grande Dame Rotterdam, the fifth Holland America liner to bear the name. She entered the transatlantic passenger
service in 1959. Ten years later she was shifted to full-time cruising. Holland America was acquired by Carnival, who replaced
her with a sixth Rotterdam. The elder ship was sold to Premier in 1997; in 2000 that line shut down. Luckily a consortium
purchased her with the aim of bringing her back to the Netherlands as a floating museum/hotel. In 2008 she tied up at
Rotterdam, and in 2010 she officially began her new life.
