This 1910 English Renaissance building was Brown University's main library until 1964. Today it
houses the "special collections," notably three books bound in human skin and the personal
manuscripts of HP Lovecraft and John Hay. Hay graduated Brown in 1858 and went on to become Lincoln's
private secretary, then Secretary of State.
