Almost time to clean the windows

North Providence, RI

Day 18 on Chantix; only two cigarettes (down from 50 a day). Tomorrow I'm going to try for my first smoke-free day in six years.

Problem is all of a sudden my apartment reeks of smoke. I could swear it didn't smell when I was smoking more...

Oh yeah, and don't forget NTAP! Never Take Another Puff.
Then there's ODAT. Take it ONE DAY AT A TIME....and in some cases, one minute at a time.

And don't forget HALT. Four triggers to smoking are: HUNGER, ANGER, LONELYNESS and TIREDNESS. Take care of those four, and the rest will take care of itself.

You'll be find Jason. Remember the Four D's.
DRINK water and lots of it. Always have a glass of icy cold water near by.
DELAY the temptation to light up. Just say to yourself to wait five minutes then see how you feel. (By the way, if you time a crave, you'll notice they're only about 3-4 minutes.)
DISTRACT yourself...go for a walk, sing a song, whatever it takes. DEEP BREATH...this is the most important one. Here's how. Slowly in through your nose, expanding the belly outwards as big as it'll go. Hold for a count of three. Exhale slowly outta your mouth while contracting your belly. This is also called belly breathing and it's an amazing de-stressor. Hope that helps.

Well done,Jason. And when you finish cleaning those windows, overcome the fear of flying and you can come across the Atlantic and help clear away the winter dust off ours too!
