John, if I have got my black birds mixed up please correct me.
From the "swarming" behavior and the incessant chatter I assumed they were starlings.
Also because they had the nerve to attack a hawk.
Update: the Common Grackle has these bright-colored eyes, and I found photos of them
attacking large birds of prey. The profile seems to fit...
