Closer

North Providence, RI

John, if I have got my black birds mixed up please correct me.
From the "swarming" behavior and the incessant chatter I assumed they were starlings.
Also because they had the nerve to attack a hawk.

Update: the Common Grackle has these bright-colored eyes, and I found photos of them
attacking large birds of prey. The profile seems to fit...

Here's a shot of a Common Grackle (male) I took last year: http://www.pbase.com/imorozoff/image/97328882
I'm not so fond of them, but they are colourful!

Grackle, is not a word describing anything I have ever heard of before.
Is it a local word in RI, or is it used all over your country ?.
