Caribe I

Miami, FL

Still in service in 2009 at over 50 years old, Caribe I was built in 1953 as the Greek Liner Olympia. She was laid up from 1974-1981 after the Greek Line failed. She was bought by Commodore in 1981, and following a two-year refit she sailed as Caribe I from 1983-1993, when she was sold to Regal Cruises as Regal Empress. In 2004 she was transferred to Imperial Majesty.

The incredible shrinking ship: in 1953 Olympia was listed at just under 23,000 gross tons. Since becoming Regal Empress, she's been listed at 14,000 gross tons. Since 1/3 of the ship hasn't been hacked off, there must have been a measurement error somewhere along the line.

HP Scanjet 4800

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Well, I think I would not relax on the Caribe.....best to stay wide awake, lest MY part of the ship disappears next!

I sailed on this ship, as the Olympia, back in 1962 from New York to Piraeus. She has been at sea long enough to be the grand daddy of all cruise liners.

Measurment error or just another haunted ship. We have the QM out here, she's full of ghosts. Maybe the Caribe has chainsaw wielding spirits.
