While walking Boston’s Greenway and waterfront, I approached this bronze from the rear and was puzzled as to what it was! The artist’s signature is barely visible. The work is so appealing, I googled the artist’s signature “K. Lane Weems” and quickly arrived at this site. Katherine Ward Lane Weems (1899-1989) made this in 1970 according to my notes, but I may be in error—the photograph indicates 1977, which would make Weems 78 when she made the work. Its location is appropriate on Boston’s “refurbished” waterfront and just a few yards from the aquarium, but depending on the time of day, you could easily walk right by it. The photograph presents the work far more clearly than I could see it when I was right in front of it!
