Hi folks, I started school (first grade) in 1953 at Adelupe Elementary (we added penitentiary to the name but it was a great school). My father was Navy and we lived in a great house out on the point not too far from the Spanish Steps and the saluting gun. I remember the house specially because it was an elephant Quonset with sheds on four sides. The shed on one of the open ends was a lanai looking over the cliff. The shed opposite was the kitchen with bedrooms on either side. There were no glass windows, just large areas of screen covered with rollup canvas shades. It was perfectly suited to the climate.
