Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead

Probably the most famous quote in U.S. naval history is that attributed to Rear Admiral David Glasgow Farragut during the Battle of Mobile Bay.
There has certainly never been a greater U.S. naval hero. This is evident given the tributes bestowed on him during his lifetime and after his death.
Despite the fact that he was born and raised in the South, Farragut chose to side with the Union.
In April 1862, while commander of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron, “Flag Officer” Farragut took the city and port of New Orleans.
As a reward, the Union created the new rank of Rear Admiral.
The model boat is The Hartford, Admiral Farragut's ship.
I believe the trophy in the foreground is a sailing trophy won by Mr. Vanderbilt.
I took the photo because I liked the view out the window.

There is so much going on in this well composed shot. The trophy on one side of the frame gives balance to the model on the other side. Interesting accompanying information.

Warm and interesting photo, I certainly hope what appears to be a giant bird on the lawn is only a sculpture.

Just as a point of interest, actual torpedoes, as we think of them, where not invented when Farragut made that famous statement, but all types of underwater explosive devices where called torpedoes back then.
