The Other Side of the Arch

You can tell that this side of the arch needs an update on some painting.
It looks like they are working their way around the building with the paint job.
I would imagine a big place like this needs constant maintenance.
I wanted to show this view because you can see all the interesting ironwork around the windows.
Samuel Yellin was the artisan responsible for all the ironwork.
In the lower right window you can see the display cases for the shells and marine life Vanderbilt collected from all over the world.

I'm curious about the clay flower pots. Did they have actual plants growing in them? If so, what a nuisance it must be to have to open those windows to water them! (There are very few windows in my house that open easily!)

the weathered walls do have character, but it does seem the paint job is sprucing up the place...there is some potential here too as a wedding photo site..
