One of my favorite sights while in Iceland.
I just loved these agreeable horses.
Not only are they pretty with those gorgeous manes and different colors but they are very friendly too.
No other horses are allowed to be imported into Iceland and as a result these horses live long lives due to lack of diseases they are susceptible to.
The Icelandic Horse is the only horse that can perform five gaits (ways of walking).
We all know walk, trot, canter and gallop but they have a fifth gait know as tolt.
Tölt is very smooth to ride since there is no suspension between strides, as is the case in trot or canter, and it can be ridden very slowly up to a very fast speed, depending on the horse.
I have always loved horses and used to ride when I was younger.
I was never a great rider but I so enjoyed being around the horses.
I’ll try not to post too many horse photos but I will be posting them thoughtout this gallery.
