Walking Through Vincent's Room

It is easy to feel Vincent’s excitement for a new adventure when viewing this painting.
He had left Paris in 1888 and moved to The Yellow House in Arles, France.
He hoped to start a “Studio of the South” where painters would have more light.
The area also reminded Vincent of the landscapes he admired in Japanese prints.
Vincent convinced his friend Paul Gauguin to join him here.

I like that room! So bright, simple and cheerful. What a painting! Especially with the addition of the visitor...

What an austere home. It is quite different to the residence that Claude Monet enjoyed. One can image how their different environments affected their work. V

The brilliance of the light and plain detail of the furniture has a power I never noticed.
The silhouette was fortunate to get. "VV"

Truly this photo is emblematic. I believe that your intention to bring the creepy masked figure, dressed in black but with relatively incongruous shorts to the fore, was entirely voluntary. Documentary information on an episode in Van Gogh's life takes a back seat. What stands out is the contrast of the present reality with the reproduction of a pictorial environment, so far from all this.
