The Spirit of St. Louis

This is not the original Spirit of St. Louis.
However, this is the location of the beginning of the May 20-21 1927 flight.
Charles Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field, Long Island, New York and flew non stop from to Paris.
The plane was designed by Donald A. Hall, manufactured by Ryan Airlines.
It was the only one of it’s kind except for replicas.
It’s original cost was $10,580.
The previous photo shows a closeup of the engine and propeller.
Some interesting history about the Hamilton Standard is located there.

Who made this replica?
Is that the one used in James Stewart movie?

Nicely composed, a fine shot of this replica spirit.

seems a tad fragile for a cross Atlantic flight, but clearly the original made it...a bold and effective composition..

The Wright Brothers book by David McCullough was very engaging. Highly recommended and as I always do, I suggest buying it used from abebooks.com. You can choose hard cover or soft cover and also condition. Usually lots of copies available.

Maybe not the real one, but this plane is beautiful too. V

You showed the most interesting part of the plane. Hamilton Standard designed a black box for Lunar Landing Module. I visited often to monitor tests.

Definitely a highlight in aviation history. I like that you zoomed in to feature the name so prominently.
