Our Recent trip to WW II battle sites

This past October Bob and I traveled to France to visit Normandy and the WW II D-Day battle sites. One of the features of the trip was an early visit to Mont Saint Michel. Since I had read about it many years ago, we chose this itinerary because it included it. The first thing I did when we got there on a cold rainy day was throw up. Not a good beginning to a two-week tour. But with the help of cautious eating and a bottle of Immodium I was able to soldier on. And it was a wonderful trip. We started out on a coach which took us to Caen. From there we visited the beaches as well as the priceless Bayeux tapestries and a farm where they grow apples and produce Calvados, a delicious apple brandy. We had a wonderful leader and a series of superb specialists who took us to all the major D-Day beaches and battle sites. At the lovely town of Honfleur we met our boat, and traveled along the Seine for the rest of the trip, making a stop at Rouen to visit the cathedral and an abbey which was greatly damaged in the war. One of our last stops was Manet's home at Givenchy where we got to see the waterlilies first hand. We wound up the trip in Paris. The only thing we missed was a rendition of "O Champs Elysee". Maybe next time.
