A BirdingTrip to Veracruz, Mexico

This fall, Bob and I spent two weeks in Veracruz, Mexico. We traveled with a group from Hawk Mountain, PA. Laurie Goodrich, from Hawk Mountain, organized the trip and was with us thoughout the main part of the trip. Our main objective was to witness the autumn raptor migration, best observed from the roof of Hotel Bienvenidos in Cardel. When we weren't watching hawks, we spent time visiting other birdy locations and historic sites. We ate at a number of restaurants and became, with some struggling, familiar with the menu choices. As always, I regretted not having taken the time to learn to speak Spanish. Our local guide, Eduardo, helped us with everything, from bird identification, to settling in at the hotels where we stayed, to interpreting menus, to arranging payment at various locations. It was, all in all, a great experience.
