Whenever I show my Japanese friends my photos of Byodo-in(平等院) they exclaim ”ああ十円玉”("aa juu en dama"/"Ah! The 10yen coin"), because an image of this temple is on the 10yen coin. Unfortunately the entry fee to the temple is not 10yen, though!
From April 2013 to April 2014, this temple underwent major restoration works. In this gallery there are photos from before, during and after the restoration works.
Byodo-in is a Buddhist temple located in Uji city which is just south of Kyoto city. The temple is not far from either the JR Uji Station on the JR Nara Line or Keihan's Uji Station on the Keihan Uji line. The entrance fee is 600yen (BTW they only charged 300yen during the restoration period which was nice of them).
