This lens is unusual in that it is designed to deliberately introduce a controlled amount of spherical aberration to the image which softens it and imparts a misty quality. This is controlled by the aperture used; at f5.6 the image is only slightly soft while at f2.2 it is extremely soft. The lens has manual aperture control and focuses manually. It has only two elements, both of which are positioned in front of the aperture iris.
