No, he was not a happy child. One day I saw him walking through the rice paddies to the road, which was about 1/8 of a mile away. Slowly he passed his mother who was walking in the opposite direction. He took no notice of her and her only regard was to tell her friends how dirty he was, laughing as she said this. I judged his age to be about 4 and yet he would often be seen far from his home by himself.

I saw him six months after the above image was taken durring the summer and sadly he still had the sad eyes and somber demeanor.
