Bringing in the yellowfin tuna. L1013515.jpg

The larger tuna are fished for on the bottom with bait while smaller tuna like the skipjack are fished for with lures. For the last few weeks the large tuna have been in the area, which can afford very good catches. The current price for tuna is 1 dollar a pound wholesale and selling in the market for $1.50 a pound. A fisherman can catch 3 to 4 hundred pounds on a good day, which puts his or her earnings considerably above the national average for a Pohnpeian, many of whom earn the minimum wage of $1.35 an hour.

Oaron Paies,

Peace and joy replace other emotions as I sit and scroll through the pictures and wishing I can buy tuna at $1.50 instead of $8.00 or more at Costco or Sam's Club. I also thought about all the other possible career choices and came to a conclusion that I could be selling fish someday and just be as happy as I could possibly be. Pohnpei forever, one of the most naturally
gifted and beautiful places in this world. Time for to go look for a wife and some sakau. Peace and Joy.
