Sakau represents one of the most important plants on Pohnpei. It is used in most all ceremonies and has been used throughout the history of Pohnpei. Sakau is Kava, Piper methysticum, which has a mild narcotic effect.

6 6 2011, I drank enough to feel the real effects. Many people enjoy using Sakau and the way it relaxes them and many use it daily, which is a very bad idea as it can cause liver damage. Do I enjoy it, no not really but I did participate in the ceremony.
