At Zinkgruvan, some 800.000 metric tons of ore is brought up to the surface yearly. The zinc content of the ore is around 8-10% and some 4-5% lead and traces of silver comes out as by products.
Concentration of non-magnetic ores is a considerably more complex process than the simple magnetic separation performed in Sweden’s iron ore mines. The main concept is to turn the rock into very fine grinded dust, where the metal and rock is separated by flotation.
The final concentrate is exported for further processing into pure zinc- and lead metal.
