Raw concrete

As the mines went deeper and the output increased, the demand for faster hoist equipment was pushed harder. In the end of the 1930’s, experiments started with installing the hoist machinery in the top of the head frame rather than having a separate hoist machinery building adjacent to it. Concrete was of course a superior building material to handle the increased loading and stress resulting of this design philosophy. As ore demand skyrocketed in the 1950’s, who had any thoughts of the aesthetical perspective? Raw, brutal, durable and cost efficient – what more was needed ?
