On May 13th, museum railway club NJM arranged a tour from Stockholm to Krylbo headed by their 4-6-0 Swedish State Railways class B 1136 from 1912.
It all went well but immense lubrication and some extra stops were required in order to combat a looming hot box on the locomotive. Well, after all it is amazing that this 94 year old lady is still alive and kicking that well after fifty years of hard regular service followed by some thirty years in storage. Although the class B engines are rated for 90kph speed is nowadays restricted to 80kph due to lack of Automatic Train Control (ATC) when running on the national rail network.
A great event – thanks NJM, although I had no seat for the entire 350km ride... I tend to see this as a good sign - steam trips are popular! A nice curiosity was the local army club who had a genuine WWII show-up in the vicinity of the roundhouse of the Krylbo depot. 2006 was the 65th anniversary of the "Krylbo Explosion" during WWII, where a loaded German ammunition train exploded at Krylbo station, causing extensive devastation.
