Exit exploration - at least for now

The task was to explore the amazing peninsula of Paldiski in Estonia, which back in the days of the cold war was a huge naval base for the Baltic Fleet of the Warsaw Pact. But this is about as much I managed to photograph before I fell into an overgrown pit, injuring my spine.

A thoughtful (and painful) experience, I must say. I have been to a fair amount of far more dangerous places, so it certainly feels a bit strange that it finally happened in a place like this.

A vertebra has got a fracture, but I am really thankful that there is a good prognosis for a full recovery, although it will take time. With that said, no more ruins this year and probably not until Q2 next year. I'll have to get back there then...

Update March 2008: Things are progressing quite well and after the first "real" exploration tour now, I fell that things are pretty good after all. I certainly need to do something to my overloaded camera bag - I really feel that I need to be more careful with the back nowadays.
